Notes:
Madison Mathew Barton was born in 1836. He married Sarah Jane Dodd 24 November 1859 in Hall Co., GA and later married Mariah Duke.
There were five Barton brothers who served in Company L of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV under Captain Sanford Tramel and then Captain Alonson Edwards: Jonathan, Gilford, James, Madison, and William H. They had three brothers-in-law who also served in the regiment: F.C. Harris, Jesse D Hyde, and Thomas H Blackstock.
