Joseph A Chapman
After the war, Joseph bought a 40 acre farm in Centralia, Illinois. His first wife was Malinda Bennett and they were married December 1850. Children of this marriage were: Frances Elizabeth, October 10, 1853; Levinia Ann Adaline, April 19, 1856, died January 23, 1859; Martha, August 8, 1859, died November 12, 1865; William Allen, March 3, 1862, died August 16, 1863; Wanda Ann, September 15, 1863, died October 20, 1863. After the death of his first wife, January 5, 1864, he married Celia Ann Gossett on November 5, 1864 in Centralia, Illinois. Celia had been Malinda's nurse during her illness for several years. Children of this marriage were: James Lafayette, February 16, 1861, died December 30, 1938; John Allen, September 23, 1865; Henry Franklin, March 9, 1868, died April 5, 1943; Nancy Ann, December 12, 1871, died January 19, 1956; Emma L., April 14, 1876, died 1953; Cora L., April 11, 1880, died 1948; and Charles W., August 5, 1885, died April 19, 1950. He died July 14, 1887 and is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery, 8 miles north of Mt. Vernon, IL. Celia died in 1911.
