It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Glenda McWhirter Todd. She passed away on September 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was a historian, genealogist, and author who prided herself on being a descendant of Andrew Ferrier McWhirter of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV. Her work over the past two decades and her dedication to the 1st Alabama Cavalry has created a legacy that will last for years to come.

Her life's work has touched thousands of people through the years, and I am glad that I had the pleasure to work with her as long as I did. My hope is that her work will live on for years to come to educate and inspire a new generation.

William Wade
Obituary of the Late William Wade

William Wade, son of Drew and Rebekah, was born September 14th, 1836, at Russelville, Alabama.

He moved to Fairfield, Iowa, about sixty years ago, where he lived one year. He afterwards moved to Van Buren County, and lived near Birmingham for thirty years, thence moved to Birmingham where he lived twenty years.

Eleven years ago their home was destroyed by fire, they then came to the home of their daughter, Mrs. C. D. Bonnett, five miles south of Fairfield, where he has been taken care of until the time of his death which occurred May 18th, 1922, at the age of 85 years, eight months and six days.

He was confined to his bed six weeks and required constant care, and during that time he often expressed his readiness for the time of his departure.

He was a member of the M. E. church at Birmingham, Iowa. He enlisted in Co. A, 1st Cavalry, Alabama, and served one hear and-a-half in the Civil War, and was discharged on account of sickness.

He was married March 80th, 1857, at Russelville, Alabama, to Piety Elizabeth Kennedy who survives him, and to that union were born five children, three died in infancy, one died in 1896, leaving one daughter, Mrs. Bonnett, and eight grandchildren, and six great grand children to mourn his death.

The remains were laid in the cemetery at Fairfield, on the afternoon of Saturday, May 20th, 1922.

The church and congregation are in sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Bonnet, and all the relatives at this time of bereavement, and we pray God’s blessing on each and every one, that their hearts may be comforted by his fatherly love.
