It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Glenda McWhirter Todd. She passed away on September 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was a historian, genealogist, and author who prided herself on being a descendant of Andrew Ferrier McWhirter of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV. Her work over the past two decades and her dedication to the 1st Alabama Cavalry has created a legacy that will last for years to come.

Her life's work has touched thousands of people through the years, and I am glad that I had the pleasure to work with her as long as I did. My hope is that her work will live on for years to come to educate and inspire a new generation.

Logan Entertains Federal Soldiers

Reunion of The Federal Soldiers Held at Logan, Ala.

The reunion of the Federal soldiers of the civil war and their sons and grandsons was held at Logan on the 13, and 14, inst. The visitors were royally entertained on the 13, and on the 14, the Clarkston Cornet Band opened the festivals with their spirited music. After a heartfelt prayer by comrad Louis Jones, Rev. D.C. Beit, on invitation, made a witty and pathetic speech on the flag and the American soldier, he let the eagle scream. Old Glory is marching at the head allright! Comrads Rich, McCain and Blevins related humorous incidents of their camp and field life during the war. After a bounteous dinner on the ground and remembering our Comrads Guthrie and Branders, deceased this spring, the comrads voted the thanks to the good people of Logan, especially the ladies they adjourned to meet again at Trimble on the second Friday and Saturday in September. The boys that wore the gray are cordially invited. W.A. Nesmith, Commander; George Hoenig, Adjutant.
